Scholarship Fund

Thomas Finley Westminster Kindergarten Scholarship Fund

Purpose: To enable families with special financial needs to participate in the weekday preschool program.

Guidelines:

1. Each request for assistance will be reviewed by the Scholarship Fund Committee. This standing committee will be chaired by the Director of the Kindergarten and shall include the Director of Christian Education, a member of the Kindergarten Committee, and a teacher in the Kindergarten.
2. Any family with a special need for financial assistance is eligible to apply, but priority shall be given to Westminster Church members. Priority shall also be given to children living in the immediate neighborhood of Westminster Church, to the child closest to age entrance into public school and to a family with more than one child in the Kindergarten.
3. The Procedure to follow in applying for a scholarship shall be:
   1. The applicant must be prepared to provide documentation of income, including a copy of the most recent tax return.
   2. The parents or guardians of the child to be enrolled must submit their request through a written application provided by the Kindergarten.
   3. The following timeline shall be followed:

      Scholarship for:	Application Deadline	Decision made by
      September – December Semester	March 31	April 30
      January – May Semester	October 31	November 30

4. The Procedure to follow in processing each application for scholarship aid shall be:
   1. A member of the Scholarship Fund Committee shall be appointed to consult privately with the parents or guardian of the child to be enrolled and verify the basis of need for assistance.
   2. The appointed member shall present this request and review the facts before the entire Scholarship Fund Committee, and they shall formulate a recommendation for the Kindergarten Committee.
5. A partial payment of fee and tuition will be made by the Kindergarten Scholarship Fund, and the balance will be paid by the parents/guardian of the child to be enrolled.
6. Specified donations and one percent (1%) of the previous year’s tuition will fund the Scholarship Fund. Funding of the Scholarship Fund will be consistent with the church policy.
7. The management of funds will be done through the Kindergarten.
